History of OBD

On-board diagnostics, or OBD, is an automotive term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability. OBD systems give the vehicle owner or a repair technician access to state of health information for various vehicle sub-systems. The amount of diagnostic information available via OBD has varied widely since the introduction in the early 1980s of on-board vehicle computers, which made OBD possible. Early instances of OBD would simply illuminate a malfunction indicator light, or MIL, if a problem was detected—but would not provide any information as to the nature of the problem. Modern OBD implementations use a standardized digital communications port to provide real-time data in addition to a standardized series of diagnostic trouble codes, or DTCs, which allow one to rapidly identify and remedy malfunctions within the vehicle.

History of OBD:

 1969: Volkswagen introduces the first on-board computer system with scanning capability, in their fuel-injected Type 3 models.
 1975: Datsun 280Z On-board computers begin appearing on consumer vehicles, largely motivated by their need for real-time tuning of fuel injection systems. Simple OBD implementations appear, though there is no standardization in what is monitored or how it is reported.
 1980: General Motors implements a proprietary interface and protocol for testing of the Engine Control Module (ECM) on the vehicle assembly line. The 'assembly line diagnostic link' (ALDL) protocol communicates at 160 baud with Pulse-width modulation (PWM) signaling and monitors very few vehicle systems. Implemented on California vehicles for the 1980 model year, and the rest of the United States in 1981, the ALDL was not intended for use outside the factory. The only available function for the owner is "Blinky Codes". By connecting pins A and B (with ignition key ON and engine OFF), the 'Check Engine Light' (CEL) or 'Service Engine Soon' (SES) blinks out a two-digit number that corresponds to a specific error condition. Cadillac (gasoline) fuel-injected vehicles, however, are equipped with actual on-board diagnostics, providing trouble codes, actuator tests and sensor data through the new digital Electronic Climate Control display. Holding down 'Off' and 'Warmer' for several seconds activates the diagnostic mode without need for an external scan-tool.
 1986: An upgraded version of the ALDL protocol appears which communicates at 8192 baud with half-duplex UART signaling. This protocol is defined in GM XDE-5024B.
 1988: The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recommends a standardized diagnostic connector and set of diagnostic test signals.
 1991:[1] The California Air Resources Board (CARB) requires that all new vehicles sold in California in 1991 and newer vehicles have some basic OBD capability. These requirements are generally referred to as "OBD-I", though this name is not applied until the introduction of OBD-II. The data link connector and its position are not standardized, nor is the data protocol.
 ~1994: Motivated by a desire for a state-wide emissions testing program, the CARB issues the OBD-II specification and mandates that it be adopted for all cars sold in California starting in model year 1996 (see CCR Title 13 Section 1968.1 and 40 CFR Part 86 Section 86.094). The DTCs and connector suggested by the SAE are incorporated into this specification.
 1996: The OBD-II specification is made mandatory for all cars sold in the United States.
 2001: The European Union makes EOBD mandatory for all gasoline (petrol) vehicles sold in the European Union, starting in MY2001 (see European emission standards Directive 98/69/EC[2]).
 2004: The European Union makes EOBD mandatory for all diesel vehicles sold in the European Union
 2008: All cars sold in the United States are required to use the ISO 15765-4[3] signaling standard (a variant of the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus).[4]
 2008: Certain light vehicles in China are required by the Environmental Protection Administration Office to implement OBD (standard GB18352[5]) by July 1, 2008.[6] Some regional exemptions may apply.
 2010: HDOBD (heavy duty) specification is made mandatory for selected commercial (non-passenger car) engines sold in the United States.

OBD-II:
OBD-II is an improvement over OBD-I in both capability and standardization. The OBD-II standard specifies the type of diagnostic connector and its pinout, the electrical signalling protocols available, and the messaging format. It also provides a candidate list of vehicle parameters to monitor along with how to encode the data for each. There is a pin in the connector that provides power for the scan tool from the vehicle battery, which eliminates the need to connect a scan tool to a power source separately. However, some technicians might still connect the scan tool to an auxiliary power source to protect data in the unusual event that a vehicle experiences a loss of electrical power due to a malfunction. Finally, the OBD-II standard provides an extensible list of DTCs. As a result of this standardization, a single device can query the on-board computer(s) in any vehicle. This OBD-II came in two models OBD-IIA and OBD-IIB. OBD-II standardization was prompted by emissions requirements, and though only emission-related codes and data are required to be transmitted through it, most manufacturers have made the OBD-II Data Link Connector the only one in the vehicle through which all systems are diagnosed and programmed. OBD-II Diagnostic Trouble Codes are 4-digit, preceded by a letter: P for engine and transmission (powertrain), B for body, C for chassis, and U for network.

Tacho Pro V2008.07 User Manual

Universal dash programmer tacho pro is the most sold programming-device for digital speedometers worldwide. You can serve almost any vehicle with the tacho pro. Then i will provide you Universal Dash Programmer Tacho Pro V2008.07 use and operate manual,hope you like it.                                       
                                         
Step 1:Power supply

The Universal Dash Programmer handheld is powerded with 12 V by a 3,5 mm miniplug (port 1). Please use an AC adapter with at least 500 mA, better 1 A.

External power supply is necessary when programming a detached odometer.

When programming through the diagnostic port, the handdeld is powered by the car through the port. The diagnostic plug is
positioned in port 3.

Warning:

When programming through the diagnostic port, do not supply the handheld with power through port 1!

Step 2.Start menu:

When supplying the handheld with power, you can see the start menu in the display. It offers the possibility, to change the backlight by pressing the STOP button. With button 0 you can make an update( software updates). Press OK to continue.

Now the handheld is asking for a password. This function is always activated when you get a Universal Dash Programmer, but you can switch it off ( options).

Step 3.:Software Updates

Tacho 2008 Software updates can be installed by yourself to the handheld. You only need a DOS or Windows computer with a serial port and a 0-modem cable:

PLEASE ERASE all eep’s before updating you Universal Dash Programmer!

1. Connect the cable to your computer(com 1 or com 2) and port 2 on the handheld.

2. When starting the handheld, choose SYNC for update.

3. Start the update program that you have received from us and make sure that you have a working internet connection.

4. wait until you see “RESET” on the display.

5. For new types please contact us to get the code you have to type in under update special.

Menu

After the start menu, you see the main menu with the different manufacturers and the menu OPTIONS, UPDATE and SYNC.
With button 8 you can move up, with button 2 down. Then the bar is on the desired menu, press OK. If you have chosen a wrong menu, you can quit by pressing STOP.

Step 4:Menu Options

Choose language

Here you can choose a different language for the Universal Dash Programmer.

New PIN

First you have to enter the old PIN. Then the handdeld asks you for the new PIN that you have to repeat again. The password consists of a combination of pressing 6 button of your choice.

Erase all eeps

With this menu you erase all data that you have saved before. First you have to press E to verify, then you have to enter your PIN.

Clear 1 EEP

Here you can erase the last data you have saved.

Verify PIN

With this menu you can switch on or off the password function when starting the handheld. With the button STOP you can switch it off. To switch it off you have to verify it with the password.

Menu updater

This is for new software, for example new manufacturers or models can be unlocked with this function. Therefore contact us.

NOTE:

Generally software improvements are installed by the start menu (0 for update).in the main menu updater is only used to unlock new programs.

Menu SYN
                                                  
Used for saving data from your handheld to your computer. This is done with the program Universal Dash and a 0-modem-cable.

Choose SYNC when the program asks for it.

How to install FGtech:

1. Create a new folder in C:/ in the name of "FGTech" or any location on your computer

2. Copy all folders/files from CD and paste into your new folder named C:/FGTech/   or any location on your computer

3. Run "Get_Hardware-ID.exe", then copy the ID number and e-mail us that ID 

FGTech Galletto 2 BDM function:

1. When you open the FGTech software, you will see the tip as the following picture. Click " OK "

2. Select your car model, choose BDM\JTAG, and then click " OK "

3. Select " Connect "

4. After the ECU connect with the fgtech software, select " Read All "  " Read ext flash "  " Read Eeprom "

5. Be carful with the power adapter connection and BDM cable connection. Make sure you don't connect it oppositely, or it will damage the ECU.

6. Be careful with the BDM ECU cable connection. Don't make mistake for the cable color!

1. Install the Battery

Install Steps:
1) Push the button cabinet forward to open position, and then remove it.
2) Take out the battery form the package box and install it.
3) Cover the reader cabinet and push it backwards to the original position.
To disassemble the battery, reverse the steps that you followed to install the battery.



2. Install TF card

Installation Steps:
1) Take out the TF card from package box.
2) Insert the TF card into the Launch Diagun III TF card slot perpendicularly. Make sure it is fully inserted in the 

right place with the "micro “label facing upward. 



3. Connections

Cable (wired)Connection Procedure of X-431 launch Diagun III:
1) Connect one end of the diagnostic cable to the USB port of X-431 Diagun III main unit;
2) Connect the other end of the diagnostic cable to the Micro USB port of the DBScar diagnostic connector;
3) Find out the vehicle's DLC;
4) Plug the 16 PIN end of DBScar diagnostic connector into the vehicle's DLC and the power indicators of X-431 Diagun III main unit and DBS car connector will light up. LC and the power indicators of X-431 Diagun III main unit and DBScar connector will light up.

4.Bluetooth(wireless) Connector Procedure of X-431 Diagun III

1) Find out the vehicle's DLC;
2) PLUG THE 16 PIN end of DBScar diagnostic connector into the vehicle's DLC.
